As an older herbalist time has taken it's toll on the strength of my grip. Removing the poker from my old Proto Pipe was becoming more and more difficult without a tool like pliers or rubber gloves. A knurled end seemed like a reasonable solution. I contacted Proto Pipe prepared to special order such a poker and as luck would have it the crew at Proto Pipe was ahead of me and had pokers with knurled ends in stock! Within days I was enjoying the ease with which the knurled poker could be removed from my pipe. As with the rest of the beautifully machined brass pipe the knurled poker fit perfectly esthetically and functionally. Thanks Proto Pipe for anticipating my needs as an older herbalist.
I know that each poker is handmade, but it fits just like it was meant for my rocket! Perfect tension on it so it doesn't come out unless you want it to. The knurling and larger size makes pulling out the poker easy even with resin. My only complaint is that the diameter of the proton poker is too big to use as a ramrod.

As the title says I bought an extra one for my Voyager. Tried it on my left handed hybrid, looks good, small little gap.
The knurled end is perfect for my old arthritic fingers to get a good grip on. I replaced the original smooth poker with this one. It makes cleaning and poking my Proto so much easier.
